Customer Spotlight: Kobi


This month, we’re excited to feature Kobi, a brand dedicated to creating better body care products for kids and teens. Since its launch in 2020, Kobi has been on a mission to provide gentle, effective solutions designed specifically for sensitive skin. With products like natural deodorant, face wash, body wash, and a stinky foot spray, Kobi helps young humans feel confident and comfortable as they learn to stay fresh. Q: How would you describe your brand and the products you offer?

A: “Kobi makes better body care products for kids and teens. Our products are designed specifically for their more sensitive skin, and won’t cause them discomfort as they’re learning how to be unstinky little humans. Right now we offer natural deodorant, face wash, body wash, and a stinky foot spray.”

Q: When/how did you start up the business, and why is your industry so important to you?

A: “I spent more than 16 years in marketing at tech companies — so, very different from the world of personal care. Then one day my friend’s 9-year-old daughter suddenly came home from school with eye-watering B.O. It was bad! I’m sure many of your readers who have kids can relate.

Being still a young child with sensitive skin, my friend wanted a gentle, kid-friendly deodorant for her, but there was nothing like that on store shelves and only a few lackluster options online. So, I launched Kobi in 2020 to create a deodorant that would stand up to the stink without irritating the more sensitive skin that kids have.”

"This brand and industry are important to me because, when it comes to personal care products, kids and teens are a largely neglected demographic. There’s tons of stuff out there for grown-ups, and tons for babies, but very little in-between. We’re changing that by building out a skin-friendly product line that parents can turn to once their kids have graduated from baby products but aren’t yet ready for the more potent grown-up stuff."

Q: How does packaging play a role in your brand’s identity?

A: "Packaging is huge for any brand. For Kobi, we wanted bright, bold colors on our labels, with each color representing a different scent. And while we believe we’ve developed nice scents for our products, at the end of the day it’s the color and appeal of the label that’s going to grab a kid’s attention first.

With our previous label provider, we were experiencing issues with faded colors that made the labels look a bit dull, as well as color inconsistency from batch to batch. That’s why we decided to give Wizard Labels a try and I’m honestly so glad we did."



Q: Which products do you order from Wizard Labels and why did you choose Wizard for your labels?

A: "We order the White BOPP Plastic (Permanent) labels with a Gloss Laminate finish. Since our products typically live next to the customer’s bathroom sink or in the shower, this material is important for us as it’s waterproof and durable, making sure our label looks great for the duration of the product’s life.

We switched to Wizard Labels about 9 months ago and it’s been a great move. What sold me on making the switch was the reasonable pricing, along with the ease of adding multiple label variations to a single order with the Versions feature. Since each of our products come in multiple scents, this not only speeds up and simplifies the ordering process, but also allows us to save money by ordering a higher label volume that gets distributed across 3 or 4 label versions.

Also, with Wizard Labels those bold colors on our labels come out as bright and crisp as the submitted design, with each ordered batch looking the same as the last. That’s a super important detail for brand consistency that, in my experience, not every label company can achieve."

 

Q: What feedback have you received on your packaging?

A: "Customers have told us they like the clean, simple look of our packaging, and parents appreciate the bold label colors as they make it easy to remember which deodorant belongs to which kid! Also, sometimes when looking at reviews for other similar products I see customers complaining about product labels that smudge or deteriorate when wet. We haven’t encountered any negative feedback like this while using Wizard’s BOPP material."

Q: What advice would you give to others choosing labels for the first time?

A: "I’d probably recommend three things:

  1. Think through all the ways in which a customer might use or store your product, and choose a label material that’s going to hold up through all those uses. Also consider shipping — will the label still look good after your product’s been banging around in a shipping box?
  2. Get yourself a good label machine and opt for machine-applied label rolls sooner rather than later. I can’t even tell you how many hours I spent hand-labeling our products in those early years!
  3. If your product has multiple variations (by scent, flavor, etc.), take advantage of Wizard’s Versions feature to order them all together and save some money."

Q: What’s next for Kobi? Any new products you’re working on?

A: “At Kobi, our mission is to help kids look, feel, and play their best. So far we’ve focused mainly on the body odor problem by keeping kids feeling fresh with
our deodorant and body wash, but there are many other problems to be tackled. Right now we’re getting into kids’ skin care with our foamy face wash product, and a gentle face lotion product that’s in the works. I think we’ve only just scratched the surface of what this brand can be.”
